Also known as ground squirrels... but they can (and do) climb trees. Very, very common in Mimosa Lakes. They create underground burrows to live in. They eat acorns and pine cones, but also eat insects, such as crickets (I've seen it!). A favorite food of the hawks that circle above. Click on a picture to enlarge...
